K League 2 Round 25 Preview

๐Ÿ”ฅ Match of the Weekend

Yongin FC vs Suwon FC

๐Ÿ“ Stadium: Yongin Mireu.
๐Ÿ•’ Kick-off: Saturday, September 5. 19:00.

This is arguably the weakest set of K League 2 fixtures for several weeks. There are no title battles, or even matches involving two playoff contenders. The teams at the top are facing the teams at the bottom (more or less). This match is significant because it comes 24 hours before Suwon Samsung host Chungnam Asan.

Suwon FC are four points adrift of the city rivals, albeit with a game in hand. A victory in Mireu will close that gap to a point, and put the pressure on the Bluewings. Suwon FC’s form is outstanding, but they can’t afford to drop points here.

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ Hidden Story

๐Ÿ“– Where are the fans?

It has taken a while (helped by a lack of midweek fixtures), but K League 2 finally recorded a sub-1000 attendance last weekend when Gimhae hosted Yongin. Only 684 were there to see Yongin coast home 3-0. Gimhae are back at home on Saturday, facing Jeonnam Dragons. Even with the Dragons’ following, there’s a possibility this will be another three-figure crowd.

After the predictable early season bounce (and facing Suwon Samsung and Daegu FC), Gimhae’s attendances have been getting progressively worse. They avoided the three-figure crowd against Cheonjgu, but only just. Fans are staying away. Perhaps there has been too much expansion, too fast?

๐Ÿ‘€ Player to Watch

Luis Mina [Suwon Samsung]

โญ Position: Forward
๐Ÿ“Š Recent Form: 22 matches, 11 goals

The goal-scoring threat Suwon Samsung have been crying out for has finally arrived. Mina has been a standout performer for Gimpo FC for several years, departing at the end of the transfer window with 10 goals for the season.

His impact on Suwon was instant. After a sluggish performance against Cheonan City, Mina’s second-half free kick won the match for this new team. They didn’t need him last weekend, against Gimpo, romping home to a 4-1 victory. Suwon’s goal scored record is still average – Mina can improve that.
