K League 2 Round 30 Preview

πŸ”₯ Match of the Weekend

Daegu FC vs. Suwon Samsung

πŸ“ Stadium: Daegu iM Bank Park.
πŸ•’ Kick-off: Saturday, October 31. 16:30.

Last Saturday’s comfortable win in Tancheon meant Suwon Samsung had successfully negotiated one of the two remaining hurdles to automatic promotion and, as is now looking likely, the K League 2 championship. One or both of those targets could be achieved as early as this coming Saturday.

The stakes are higher for Daegu. Suwon FC’s surprise home loss to Chungnam Asan has suddenly opened the door to automatic promotion. Daegu are fourth, but only two points back from second. And they lead Seoul E-Land and Suwon FC in goals scored. Their two promotion rivals have easier matches this weekend – Daegu must win!

πŸ•΅οΈ Hidden Story

πŸ“– Who Grabs Second?

We won’t know until late November if Suwon FC have bottled the opportunity to go up automatically. One of K League’s most in-form sides somehow lost at home to Chungnam Asan. They wasted their game in hand on Seoul E-Land (who are now level on points) and Daegu (two points adrift).

Suwon can recover immediately when Ansan Greeners make the short hop east from Gojan. Seoul E-Land will head south to Yongin, another comfortable fixture on paper. If these sides keep winning, then goals scored will become crucial. Daegu 55, Suwon 53, and Seoul 52. This is going to be very tight.

πŸ‘€ Player to Watch

Matheus Serafim [Daegu FC]

⭐ Position: Winger
πŸ“Š Recent Form: 28 matches, 10 goals, 11 assists

After Suwon Samsung’s playoff defeat to Jeju SK last winter, few thought Matheus Serafim would be released. The Brazilian was second in goals scored for the Bluewings, but topped the charts for goal contributions. He was also a firm fan favorite. Towards the end of the season, as Suwon began to falter, Serafim was regularly saving his team’s blushes.

Daegu pounced, offering the winger a deal to join an established Brazilian crew at the club. Serafim hasn’t disappointed. He isn’t perfect – a large number of his crosses hit the first man, and he’s usually told to calm down by teammates when he shows displeasure. But you can’t fault the output. He scores and he assists. Daegu would love to see him do it again, against his former club.
